direct positive portrait

About

I’m a chamber composer, folk improviser & educator based in Richmond, Virginia; whose creative objectives derive directly from my personal objective: to overcome a life-long sense of ‘out-of-place-ness’ / diaspora.

My path has been non-traditional — forged primarily through self-study & private mentorships. I earned a BA in music in 2014 & was awarded the Gilman International Scholarship for studies at Tbilisi State Conservatoire. I’ve hosted radio programs on WRIR & WMMT, designed electronics with Death By Audio, studied fiddle at Cowan Creek Mountain Music School & was a composer fellow at the 2017 Bang on a Can Summer Festival.

I work as a music teacher for incarcerated youth & am a member of Rumput kroncong ensemble & RAIC improvisation collective. My pursuit of music is motivated by a need of belonging & community. Recent collaborators include RVA Baroque, Classical Revolution RVA, composer Peni Candra Rini, pianist Vicky Chow, & violist Carrie Frey.
